Irondequoit Police have arrested one person connected to the recent death of a well-known Brighton businessman and philanthropist.
Police have charged Christopher Wernle, 48, with second-degree murder in the death of Ted Boucher, 65. Capt. Mark Jesske said Friday that Wernle lived in a house at 403 Helendale Rd.
Boucher’s body was found just outside that home Saturday, May 15, after his family reported the day before that he was missing. Boucher’s car was found nearby.
Jesske said that the two men had known each other for some years.
“We are confident in stating that this was not a random act. Mr. Boucher and Mr. Wernle were known to each other, thereby eliminating fears of any threat to the general public,” Boucher said.
Police said that Boucher was beaten with a blunt object. They have not yet revealed a possible motive for the crime.
Wernle is being held without bail pending another court appearance.
Boucher was chairman of Caldwell Manufacturing, a company founded in 1888, and is a worldwide supplier of both residential and commercial window and door hardware.
