Honor Flight Rochester and 2 WWII veterans focus of national TV show

American Heroes Channel/Honor Flight Rochester

Two World War II veterans with local ties will be featured in a national TV program Monday night as part of a Veterans Day remembrance.

The show is called Honor Flight Heroes, and it will be on the American Heroes Channel, which is owned by the Discovery network.

The two veterans are Philip ‘Curly’ Voystock and Harold Stryker, and they will be featured in the pilot program for a potential series about veterans.

Both men took part in a mission organized by Honor Flight Rochester in September to visit the World War II memorials in Washington D.C.

Peter Glennon is co-founder and chairman of Honor Flight Rochester. He says this pilot episode was produced by Eric Roberts and Andrea Reeves from Syracuse who hope it can become a regular program that shares stories for veterans from across the country.

“And the idea is if it resonates with the American people, they can go to all of the Honor Flight groups , 132 of them across the country, find more of these World War II veterans and get them to tell their stories, because I think it’s important for all Americans to hear them,” Glennon said.

He says that Americans, “should also keep that history of why people served before, how they served and what it meant to them and their families and communities thereafter. So I do hope that we capture as many World War II  stories through this program into the future and as we capture all of those, I think the Korean War stories are just as important, and keep going on through. It would be a wonderful program,” Glennon added.

Curly Voystock was a corporal stationed in France as part of the American Graves Registration Command which helped recover more than 170,000  American servicemen buried in makeshift graves throughout Europe. Harold Stryker was part of the Battle of Okinawa, surviving while 1,625 of his fellow infantrymen were killed  during that battle.

Honor Flight Heroes will air Monday at 7:00 p.m. on the American Heroes Channel (channel 140 on Spectrum TV cable systems).
