Governor Andrew Cuomo on Saturday urged boaters to heed a Small Craft Advisory and stay off the water due to dangerous conditions on Lake Ontario, Lake Erie and the St. Lawrence River.
He notes that wind conditions are producing waves of four feet or more that could build to 5 to 9 feet, and waves later Saturday could reach up to 11 feet from Sodus Bay headed east.
With a small craft advisory, the National Weather Service says that conditions, especially for inexperienced mariners and those operating smaller vessels, are dangerous.
On Friday, Cuomo directed state agencies to deploy additional resources to help local communities with some severe weather on Friday, and there is also alakeshore flood warning in effect until 6:00 a.m. on Sunday.
The governor says the additional resources include another 50 National Guard troops in Monroe and Niagara Counties.
