One Person Dies In Hamlin Mobile Home Fire

TWC News

Monroe County Deputies say that one person died in a mobile home fire early Sunday morning in Hamlin.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. on Locust Drive. Deputies say the victim is identified as 58 year old David Hogan. He lived in a trailer owned by 67 year old Walter Steinmetz who also lives at that address.

Authorities say Steinmetz was in his bedroom when he heard Hogan yelling for help from his bedroom which is located at the opposite end of the trailer. Deputies say that Steinmetz opened his bedroom door and because of heavy smoke could not get to Hogan’s bedroom.

Steinmetz got out of the trailer and ran across the street to the home of his roommate’s family to call 911. The family of Hogan tried to get him out of the home but it was full of fire and smoke.

After firefighters put out the fire, Hogan was found dead in his bedroom.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
