Governor Andrew Cuomo says that Rochester's anti-poverty programs will benefit by receiving a portion of the $5.4 million in federal funding that the state will administer as part of the AmeriCorps program.

He says nearly $600,000 will complement the work of the Governor's Rochester Anti-Poverty Task Force by supporting programs designed to improve academic achievement, adolescent health, and violence prevention in the city's most impoverished neighborhoods.

The grant money will enable 19 municipalities and non-profit organizations to recruit around 700 AmeriCorpsmembers across the state.

AmeriCorps is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, which is a federal agency that engages adults in intensive community service work.
