Charlotte Square is a collection of apartments and townhouses coming to Charlotte Street in Downtown Rochester.
Mayor Lovely Warren says this project was one of four proposals for the site. She says this particular project, headed up by Rochester-based company Home Leasing. was chosen because it has plans for for-sale townhouses.
"We hear a lot about our empty-nesters and young professionals that don't necessarily want to lease, don't necessarily want to rent. They want to purchase, and this proposal gave them that option to do that."
Warren says the project will create 50 construction jobs, but will continue to benefit the local economy after its construction.
"In addition to the 50 construction jobs, Charlotte Square will bring more customers to the area businesses, spurring even more job growth here and in surrounding neighborhoods."
Construction is expected to begin this summer, with apartments available in 2016. Up to 14 townhouses will be developed in a second phase of the project, available in 2017. Nelson Leenhouts of Home Leasing says he expects the apartments to run between $1000-$1800 per unit.
