The Max and Marian Farash Charitable Foundation is donating more than $2 million to area synagogues and Jewish educational programs.
An initial gift of $1 million will begin a new multi-year program to provide a scholarship to any child attending a Jewish overnight camp, as well as opportunities for travel to Israel.
The foundation is also donating more than a million dollars to synagogues throughout Monroe and Ontario Counties. There are grants for Jewish education being made to Jewish day schools and local Hebrew school programs.
Foundation director of grants and programs, Isobel Goldman, says that research supports the idea that summer camp experience and travel to Israel are important to Jewish educaton and identity, lasting into adulthood.
