A group of community members are speaking out against Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies decision to shoot and kill a Penfield resident's pit bull.
Among the protesters was Darren Natale. He brought his two pit bulls with him to Tuesday's rally outside the Sheriff's Office. He says he came to bring awareness that not all pit bulls are aggressive.
"These dogs are no different than any other dog," Natale explains. "They are the gentlest of dogs. It's based on how you raise them, how you socialize them."
Sheriff's Deputies were called to the home of Gary Brockler for car blocking the sidewalk. Authorities say Brockler's pit bull, Diablo, charged at them, from underneath the garage door, as they approached the house. Deputies then shot and killed the dog.
"I hate to see any of this happen," Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn says. "However, from everything we've been able to find from our investigation, the deputies responded as they would be trained."
O'Flynn says when an aggressive animal approaches officers they are justified in using that level of force. And he says the investigation is still ongoing.
