RGH And Unity Hospitals Announce Visitation Restrictions Due To The Flu

Rochester General and Unity Hospital have both announced some restrictions for patient visitation because of what they say has been a rapid increase in flu cases in the last two weeks.

Those restrictions include:

--Visitors will be limited to no more than two people per patient at a time.

--All visitors must be at least 14 years old.

All visitors experiencing symptoms associated with the flu (runny nose, coughing/sneezing, high temperature, etc.) are asked to not come to the hospital, even if you've been vaccinated against the flu.

UR Medicine issued a similar policy on Monday for several hospitals including Strong and Highland.

John Ricci, a spokesman for the Monroe County Health Department, says that through February 27th, there were 325 cases of flu recorded, with 82 people hospitalized and no deaths.

He says that while the numbers are not as large as last year’s outbreak, there is still a fair amount of flu cases being reported, and Ricci says it is too soon to say that the flu season has peaked.
