Rochester Police officials have released numbers on Saturday’s gun buyback, an attempt to get some of the illegal guns off the street. Authorities say that the buyback, held at the Miracle Faith Deliverance Center, netted well over 200 guns.
The majority of those were handguns and there were some sawed-off shotguns and rifles as well as one assault rifle. Police say they also collected replica firearms, air guns and pellet guns.
More than $19,000 in Wegmans gift cards were handed out in exchange for the weapons. RPD Chief Michael Ciminelli calls the event “a great success” and officials say once the final inventory is completed, more information about the buyback will be released.
