RPD Holding Gun Buyback

The Rochester Police Department is holding a gun buyback next month. Mayor Lovely Warren, City Council President Loretta Scott, and Rochester Police Chief Mike Ciminelli announced the program jointly, calling it "another component of Rochester's commitment to reducing firearms violence" in a statement.

Jackie Shuman is the public information officer for the RPD. She says if they can get even one gun of the street, they've been successful.

"If the resident has a handgun or assault rifle or a long gun that's operable, bring it in. We're not asking for your name. We would like you to get the weapon, and clean out unwanted fire arms in exchange for a gift card."

The gift card is from Wegmans, who is sponsoring the program along with Rochester Police Foundation. The buyback is November 7, from 12:00pm-5:00pm at the Miracle Deliverance Faith Center on Whitney Street.
