Report: Louise Slaughter To Run Next Year For Another Term

slaughter__louise.jpg

Congresswoman Louise Slaughter reportedly is running for re-election next year. That according to the Democrat and Chronicle, which says that the Fairport Democrat's intentions were included in an email sent to supporters on Sunday seeking campaign donations.

Slaughter defeated Republican Mark Assini by just 869 votes last year.  Assini is also Gates Town Supervisor, and he tells WXXI News, that although he has not focused a lot of attention on next year's race, at this point he does plan to make another run for Congress. He also tells us he still plans to run for re-election as Gates Supervisor this year.

Assini is currently in his third, two-year term as town supervisor.  If Slaughter, who will turn 87 next year is re-elected, she would become the longest-serving House member.  Charles Rangel, who has served since 1971, is not seeking re-election.
