New Superfund Cleanup Site in Rochester

DEC Logo

The D-E-C has added a new site in Rochester to its list of Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal sites.

That means the State Superfund Program will identify, investigate and clean up the former OBI property at 255 Hollenbeck Street, south of Norton.

The site is considered a significant threat to public health and/or the environment due to the levels of chlorinated volatile organic compounds - primarily trichloroethene in soil and groundwater.

The site includes several large buildings used for metal plating, sheet metal fabrication, metal stamping and related services.

The next step for the property is to better determine where and how much contamination, and figure out how to reduce the contamination.
