Churchville-Chili student charged with making 'terroristic threat'

Officials from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Churchville-Chili School District say that a student at that district has been charged with making with deputies believe were credible threats against the Churchville-Chili High School on April 2.

The youth, who was not identified, is accused of Making a Terroristic Threat, Falsely Reporting an Incident and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Deputies say the youth was arrested Wednesday afternoon and issued an appearance ticket to show up in family court at a later date.

Officials say that the school district was notified of the incident on the day of the initial report. They say that district officials continued to be advised and kept updated over the course of the investigation.

The school district  advised the sheriff’s department that the student who made the threats was not permitted to return to school while the investigation continued.

Both the school district and the Sheriff’s Office determined that at no time were students or staff in danger.

A statement from the Churchville-Chili Supt., Lori Orologlio, says after the investigation began, the district also received reports about the threat through its anonymous helpline.

She says that district officials communicated with the school community at the earliest time possible as not to impede the ongoing police investigation.

The district also asks  that if any student or parent has first-hand knowledge of a threat to the school, to contact their  Safe School Helpline at 1-800-418-6423, extension 359, the Safe School Helpline website, or by downloading the Safe Schools Helpline app from your mobile app store.

Orologio says students or parents can also contact any administrator or the director of security at 293-1800 extension 2030.

Sheriff Todd Baxter says his office takes all threats seriously and will not tolerate any threats or acts of violence. He thanked those who reported the suspicious activity to authorities.
