Frontier Moving Employees From S. Clinton Avenue Location

A familiar presence in downtown Rochester is moving, but it's not going too far. Frontier Communications, which has had operations in the leased building it occupies on South Clinton Avenue, will be moving about 500 workers out of that building and putting them in various other sites that Frontier owns in the Rochester area.

General Manager for Frontier, Phil Yawman, says this is not any kind of reduction in workforce. He says it just makes fiscal sense to move employees into buildings that Frontier actually owns.

“We have the capacity within facilities that we currently own, all across Rochester to move our employees that are within this building  into our own facilities and reduce our overall occupancy costs, so it’s really  just nothing more than that."

Yawman notes that in the current, leased building, Frontier is only using about half of the space. He says the employees are being moved to other locations downtown and to West Henrietta Road. Frontier has been in the South Clinton building since the 1980s.

Altogether, Frontier has about 1400 workers in the Rochester area.

Before retiring in March 2025, Randy Gorbman was WXXI's director of news and public affairs and managed the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
