Kodak Expands Some Manufacturing

www.kodak.com

Kodak is expanding production of some printing plates, although the expansion will not affect employment in the Rochester area.

The company is increasing capacity for its Kodak Sonora “process-free” printing plates which are designed to make certain types of commercial printing more efficient. Kodak says the investment is needed to meet global demand.

As a result, Kodak has invested in manufacturing equipment at a plant in Germany. Because of the changes, Kodak will be phasing out production at its facility in Leeds, England, which will result in about 200 manufacturing positions being cut.

Due to the changes, Kodak expects to incur charges of  $30 million to $40 million, with much of that non-cash related. It's mainly related to depreciation and asset write-offs.
