Coming up on Connections: Wednesday, October 6

American Press Institute

First hour: Answering your questions about technology

Second hour: An update on the local sports sceneGot questions about technology? We all do right now, and not just because we couldn't get to Facebook all day Monday. Thinking of cutting the cord on cable TV? Trying to upgrade your home internet? Still struggling with your work-from-home setup? And do you want the new iPhone 13 or would you be better off with the Pixel 6? We take your questions and try to give you some solid answers. Our guests:

  • Chad Barbe, staff software engineer at Datto, and self-described Apple “fanboy”
  • Amanda Nock, director of devops at NU borders, who worked in engineering at Paychex and Cloudcheck
  • Philip Dampier, editor/publisher of StopTheCap!, and Brighton-based expert on cable, phone, and internet regulation and pricing

Then in our second hour, let's talk sports! The Red Wings just wrapped up their first baseball season in two years, the Amerks are getting ready to bring (vaccinated) fans back to Blue Cross Arena after playing to empty stands most of last year, and there are two new(ish) teams gearing up to bring pro soccer back to Rochester after some rough years for the sport. How do they compete for fans, what should we all expect when we get back inside the arena, and how does Rochester's pro sports scene compare to other markets? Our guests:

  • Dan Mason, general manager of the Rochester Red Wings
  • Rob Minter, vice president of business operations for the Amerks and Knighthawks
  • Pat Ercoli, president/COO and head coach of RNY FC

You'll hear Scott in various capacities on WXXI either as a reporter, or hosting Morning Edition or All Things Considered.
