Gates Supervisor: Sutherland Global moves 600 jobs out of the Rochester Tech Park

The Rochester Tech Park in Gates has 600 fewer workers, after employees from Sutherland Global Services moved out.

That’s according to Town Supervisor Mark Assini, who says the company, which provides various kinds of business services, recently completed removing its operations there.

On Thursday afternoon Sutherland indicated there's been no loss of jobs at their Rochester area operations because of the change:

Sutherland's statement : "Back in late October, early November 2016 there was a real estate consolidation decision made between the Gates & Jefferson facilities due to both buildings being filled at only half capacity. This resulted in zero job loss. "

Assini says certainly the move of jobs from Gates is not good for the town's economy, but he says the Tech Park has seen an influx of jobs in recent months.

“Having 600 jobs lost out of the Tech Park is a blow to the Rochester Tech Park; having said that, we’ve had literally several thousand jobs added to the Rochester Tech Park in the last three years; we’ve had a number of large tenants move in there.”

Assini was unhappy he didn’t get advance warning of Sutherland’s move.

“We worked out the busing arrangements and services they needed for the facility itself and the fact that they didn’t have the courtesy to tell us that they were leaving bothers me. They’d indicated that they had a long term relationship with the town and a long term lease and all of a sudden, out of the blue, they’re gone.”

Sutherland says it sent out a press release about the consolidation last November.
