The annual New York Wine & Food Classic competition has just wrapped up in Watkins Glen, and the Governor’s Cup trophy went to Chateau Lafayette Reneau 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling. That is a winery located near Seneca Lake.
The award was presented by Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy, who is also now a resident of the Finger Lakes. The Governor’s Cup is the top prize of the 863 entries in the competition.
The Winery of the Year award went to Macari Vineyards & Winery from Long Island.
The awards were based on blind tastings by 22 judges from California, New York, some other states, and one from France. Judges included prominent wine writers, restaurateurs, retailers, and wine educators.
The competition is sponsored by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation.
