The fourth annual Dominican Day will be held Sunday at the International Plaza in Rochester.
Festival organizers expect the event to bring thousands of people to the plaza along North Clinton Avenue for a day of music, food, culture, and pride.
Jessica Del Valle, a member of the Dominican Day Committee, said Dominicans have been a part of the Rochester community for many years now, contributing in a variety of ways.
“We have contributed to the city culturally, socially, and economically,” Del Valle said. “We have Dominican-owned businesses, from restaurants, salons. There's a lot of daycares to individuals, professionals, artists, and community leaders that are part of the Rochester history.”
Although it’s difficult to pinpoint the size of Rochester’s Dominican population, De Valle estimates there are more than 4,000 people.
More than 3,000 people attended Dominican Day last year, making it the most attended event ever held at the International Plaza, according to the Greater Rochester Chamber.
Del Valle said that attendees can expect a family-friendly celebration of musical performances by local and nationally known artists, local food vendors, and plenty of dancing.
Dominican Day will be held Sunday, Aug. 16, from 1 to 7 p.m. at the International Plaza.
