Two pilots and a passenger were killed Sunday morning in a mid-air crash between two planes in North Collins. The planes took off from the Hamburg Airport headed to St. Mary, Pennsylvania.
The Erie County Sheriff's Patrol Chief, Scott Joslyn says a witness called to report the crash at 9:24 a.m. Both planes fell on School Street, just east of the Village of North Collins in a very rural area. Deputies were on the scene but were preserving the crash site for investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The FAA has already confirmed a Cessna 120 and a Piper PA 28 were the two planes involved in the collision. Both pilots each had over ten years experience.
The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to arrive late Sunday to continue investigating the cause of crash.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
