Though New York’s next gubernatorial election is more than three years away, 2010 republican candidate and Buffalo Public Schools Board Member Carl Paladino may be laying the groundwork for a second run.
Paladino reported his interest in another bid for Governor to a number of news agencies in the past week.
He told WBFO that in the wake of corruption convictions of the state’s former Assembly and Senate leaders, New York’s electorate is ready for a change.
“I think what’s happened in the last couple of years in exposing the underbelly of this corrupt government that we have has led people to suddenly think that it’s about time we get some different blood in our government. We’ve been losing jobs, we’ve been losing companies. A lot of phony-ism going on.”
Paladino criticized Governor Andrew Cuomo’s economic development plans, saying they have been structured to take care of a “friends and family” club. As a potential candidate, Paladino said he could create jobs, but would also eliminate positions in state government to shrink what he says is too costly a bureaucracy.
Paladino surprised many voters by defeating Rick Lazio in 2010 to grab the Republican Party nomination for Governor. He lost that election to Democrat Andrew Cuomo.
