Dump truck takes down utility poles and power lines in Henrietta

Henrietta Fire District/Facebook

Cleanup efforts continue in Henrietta after more than a dozen utility poles were taken down by a dump truck.

It happened on Lehigh Station Rd. near Rush- Henrietta High School late Monday morning.

The dump truck driver was trapped in his vehicle for a while, but eventually was freed without any injuries as were some other drivers in the area.

High voltage power lines came down, and at one point, more than 1,200 RG&E customers were without power. Most were back on line by early afternoon.

Crews from the utility, along with Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies and Henrietta fire personnel helped get people out of the area where the lines came down.

Early on Tuesday morning, deputies said that Lehigh Station Rd. remains closed in both directions between East Henrietta Rd. and Masthead Way while crews continue their work on the power lines in the area.  Lehigh Station Rd. is expected to remain closed throughout the morning rush hour on Tuesday.

The Rush-Henrietta School District says that the Senior High School cannot be accessed until further notice, and on itswebsite, it listed this advisory:

* Students attending summer school at the Fairport site should be dropped off at - and picked up from - Roth Junior High School, 4000 East Henrietta Road, for the remainder of the week.

* Driver education is being moved to Good Shepherd, 3288 East Henrietta Road, until further notice.

* All pool-related programs at the Senior High School are canceled until further notice.

* No sports-related activities will take place at the high school until further notice.

Deputies are also coordinating with the Red Cross to provide any assistance needed for area residents.
