T-Mobile says merger deal would bring customer center to Rochester and 1,000 jobs to Upstate NY

T-Mobile says that if a merger deal with Sprint goes through, the Greater Rochester area will have one of five new ‘T-Mobile Customer Experience Centers’ and that will create at least 1,000 jobs in Upstate New York.

The Greater Rochester area would join Overland Park, Kansas as the locations announced so far, for the new customer support centers.

John Legere, T-Mobile US CEO said that, “We love New York! With its business-friendly environment, diverse workforce and strong sense of community, the Greater Rochester area is a perfect location to build another New T-Mobile Customer Experience Center.”

T-Mobile says that the new customer care employees will be eligible to receive benefits and opportunities such as significant management preparation experience, career development paths and college tuition reimbursement.

There was no immediate word on just which location in the Greater Rochester area T-Mobile might be looking at.

The merger with Sprint is a $26 billion deal that would shrink the nation’s major wireless competition from four different providers to three, including AT&T and Verizon.

The merger was first proposed last April, and is still going through regulatory review. The FCC and the Department of Justice are among the agencies that must approve the deal.
