A local school superintendent is joining the New York State Education Department.
Brockport Central School District Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small has been appointed assistant commissioner for the Office of Innovation and School Reform.
In her new role, Myers-Small will lead that office, which focuses on supporting school innovation and turning around low-performing schools across the state.
Her last day in Brockport is expected to be January 6.
Brockport Board of Education President Terry Ann Carbone says they’re seeking an interim superintendent and a permanent replacement.
The state Education Department also appointed Shannon Tahoe as interim state commissioner. Maryellen Elia left the role at the end of August, and interim Commissioner Beth Berlin is leaving in mid-November.
