Garth Fagan Dance is marking its 50th year in 2020, but the pandemic put the brakes on any big public celebrations earlier this year.

But Friday, a banner was unveiled that is hung on the west wall of the Miller Center building of the Eastman School of Music at the Gibbs Street campus. Garth Fagan joined city officials for the unveiling.

Fagan, 81, credits Mayor Lovely Warren and general manager of Rochester Community TV, Carvin Eison, for bringing this project to fruition. He said that it marks a half-century of uplifting and positive work.

“We dance everywhere all over the world, even New Zealand, Australia, you know, so it's a joy." Fagan said.

Eison said this is what happens when a community works together.

“This is what happens when we all pull together and put our differences aside and look for what makes our community better," Eison said.

The 32-by-12-foot banner was designed by the collaboration of Garth Fagan Dance and the Eastman School of Music’s graphic design team. The banner will hang on the Miller Center building until November 2021.
