A group of residents in Greece are trying to urge the New York State Attorney General to investigate the town's recent property assessment.

Greece Police Chief Michael Wood has been placed on leave, town officials announced Friday evening. And Deputy Chief Naser Zenelovic has resigned.

Zenelovic’s resignation came as the town announced it was launching an investigation into allegations raised against him in a recently-obtained New York State Police report.

That report, detailed by local journalist Gary Craig in a substack post hours earlier, raised allegations of harassment and stalking against Zenelovic during his days with the Rochester Police Department. He also was accused of official misconduct and lying under oath. The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute.

Wood, too, worked at RPD, but departed in 2014. He took over the Greece Police Department in early 2022, and brought on Zenelovic at that time. Craig reported that the state investigation began about the same time, with allegations dating to matters as much as three years prior.

Deputy Chief Ryan Parina will serve as acting police chief until further notice.

Brian Sharp is WXXI's investigations and enterprise editor. He also reports on business and development in the area. He has been covering Rochester since 2005. His journalism career spans nearly three decades.
