A local World War II veteran says he still can’t believe the recognition he got Monday at the Veterans Day parade in New York City.
That veteran is Jack Foy, a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge, one of the fiercest battles of World War II.
Foy was invited to be on the reviewing standing Monday when President Trump talked made reference to Foy’s service.
“We are proudly joined today by a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge, a native New Yorker who is 94 years old and still going very, very strong, Corporal Jack Foy,” Trump told the crowd.
Trump referred to the nearly 100 miles that Jack Foy had to march in sub-zero temperatures in Belgium, as well as his continuing to serve despite being wounded three times.

Foy says to get that recognition from the president is like nothing he’s ever experienced before.
“It’s so hard to describe, I’m still floating on cloud nine, to have the president of the United States talk directly to you and tell of your experiences and that, it’s just so outside of our regular realm of things,” Foy told WXXI News.
Foy really appreciated the shout-out from the president, which comes a year after the Rochester area group of Battle of the Bulge veterans ended their yearly gathering since there are so few of them left.
