The high winds that blew through the region from New Year's Eve into New Year's Day did some damage, taking down tree branches and power lines, and they also collapsed a sports dome in Parma.
It's the tarp that covers the Doug Miller Family Sports Park on West Ridge Road. Miller, who played for the Rochester Rhinos and Lancers and now coaches the Indoor Lancers team, is the owner of that business that hosts soccer games, golf and other activities.
He says the damage from the winds likely happened between 4:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
“There was a tear or something in the back corner of it, I’m assuming and once it got onto the golf deck it ripped everything else; I’m not 100 percent sure a microburst or some sort of wind gust did some damage, and then once it got inside, it must have come down," Miller told WXXI News.
One bright spot, according to Miller, is that no one was inside the facility when the wind tore down the dome.
“That’s a positive, you’ve got to always try and look from a different perspective, and I’m just thankful that nobody was in here when it did happen."
Miller says right now he's just trying to to deal with cleanup, insurance and other issues, to try to get his operation going again.
