Rochester is one of the best cities in the country for fire prevention and response, according to an independent analyst. Insurance services office, or ISO, is an independent firm that provides statistics and other risk assessment information. They compare over 45,000 districts.
Fire departments are graded by their training requirements; station location; and equipment quality. ISO also looks at communication systems.
Out of a possible 105 points, Rochester scored 94, a Class One distinction.
Mayor Lovely Warren says the department should be proud, and not just because this will reduce insurance rates for city residents and business owners.
"This is a prestigious designation. It is always nice when outside organizations tell us what I've known for so long. We have the best fire department and the best team here in the city of Rochester. So thank you for all that you do."
Rochester is one of 148 districts in the country to be labeled Class One.
