RTS says it will gradually begin to eliminate 25 percent of redundant bus stops along its routes, a process it expects to complete with the next 12 months.
The bus company had announced the plans last year after a study recommended eliminating about 900 stops, about half of those in the city of Rochester and half in suburban areas of Monroe county.
RTS had taken public comment on the proposal late last year, and officials say as a result of community feedback, 29 additional stops will remain in place.
Bus signs with information that reflect the route changes has also gone up. RTS issued a statement saying that transit authorities across the country are making bus stop placement a priority in an effort to streamline service and reduce costs. Officials say research has shown that too many stops frustrate customers, reduce on-time performance and waste fuel.
