The Transportation Security Administration officially opened its Pre-Check application center here in Rochester.
The popular program allows passengers to swiftly go through a designated lane in the security check point. Travelers are able to keep on their shoes, a light jacket, and belt and leave 3-1-1 liquids/gels in carry-on bags and their laptop in its case.
U.S. citizens and permanent residents are able to go through a pre-enrollment process online at the TSA website. Applicants can make an appointment to complete the enrollment process in person at the application center located on Monroe Avenue in Pittsford with two forms of I.D.
"These people who have enrolled in TSA Pre-Check have provided us with personal information about themselves, including their finger prints," says Lisa Farbstein, a spokesperson with TSA. "We run a background check on them. Then they will get a known travel number. They use that number when they go online and purchase a ticket. They can put in that number and then they can go through that lane."
The cost for the Pre-Check program is $85, and lasts for five years.
TSA plans to open more than 300 application centers nationwide by this spring. Rochester is one of the first cities to open.
