Manchester Judge Censured

At least two people who appeared before a longtime town judge in Ontario County didn't like the judge's attitude and knowledge of the law.

Their complaints made it to a state judicial review panel.

The state Commission on Judicial Conduct says Town of Manchester Justice Edwin Williams failed to respect litigants who appeared before him in eviction cases from 2012 and 2013.

The Commission also found Williams, who is not an attorney, was NOT professionally competent in the law in issuing warrants of eviction.

Williams has been a Manchester town judge for 44 years. His current term expires at the end of 2017.

The Commission says Williams admitted his lapse in judgement, agreed to the censure and to work to avoid such lapses in the future.
