People concerned about the rights of farmworkers will remember one who died a year ago on a dairy farm in Penn Yan, Yates County.
Marco Antonio Ortiz Perez, 31, was a native of Guatemala. He died November 9, 2014 when he became entangled in an auger while cleaning a silo.
The event will begin Sunday, November 8 at 11 am with a presentation on worker safety at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 179 Main St, Penn Yan. The memorial service follows at 12:30 pm. Flowers will be laid at the site of the accident following the service.
The service is organized by several farm worker advocates including Worker Justice Center of New York, Unitarian Universalist Congregations of Rochester and Canandaigua, Rural and Migrant Ministries, The Workers’ Center of Central NY, and St. Mark’s Church.
