Rochester residents can weigh in on the 2017-2018 city budget during a community input session tonight from 6 to 8 at City Hall.
This replaces the previously scheduled meeting which was canceled due to last month's snowstorm.
Budget Director for the city, Chris Wagner, says the session offers people a chance to interact with the mayor, and participate in discussion groups.
"Focus on the mayor's priorities. The discussions will be focused on those three priorities: more jobs, safer neighborhoods, and better schools," he said.
In addition to this forum, the city also conducted a telephone town hall meeting and online survey to provide other ways for the public to participate.
Wagner says the city is working on closing a $50 million dollar deficit, but there wasn't additional help from the state's recently enacted budget, and there is also some uncertainty around some federal funding.
He says they're still working on ways to close the gap.
"That ranges from finding efficiencies, to generating more revenue somehow, to potentially some reductions in services. So those are some of the options in front of us," he said.
Mayor Lovely Warren will submit a budget to City Council May 19th, and after public hearings, council will vote on the budget June 20th.
The final community input session on the budget starts at 6 at City Hall.
