The Clintons Crisscross Upstate NY

With an April 19th Presidential Primary for New York State, activity is increasing by some of the candidates.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton, who was in Syracuse last Friday,  is scheduled to be in Albany on Monday, meeting with state legislative Democrats.

Reportedly, the candidate will make a stop in Buffalo this coming Friday.

Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, is scheduled to stop at Laborers Union Local 435 late Tuesday afternoon on Fourth Street in Rochester, according to the candidate’s website.

Jamie Romeo is the chair of the Monroe County Democratic Committee. She says she's not surprised to see the former New York Senator making an upstate round.

"She did make a lot of stops up to Rochester while she was our representative in the senate. She's well known up here, and she was a great senator for us."

There’s no word yet on any nearby campaign stops for Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, or any of the Republican candidates, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and John Kasich, but there has been speculation that all of the candidates may be considering various stops across the state because of  the way the delegate count has gone so far and the large number of delegates available in New York.

Romeo says she sees an increased focus on New York State this election cycle compared to past years, but regardless of the primary results, she imagines the state will go to a democratic candidate in the presidential election.

"I know there has been a lot of discussion about this with the potential of a Donald Trump presidency but at the end of the day I think any democrat on the ballot would be able to defeat Donald Trump handily."

Romeo says local democrats will be looking to use some momentum from the presidential race to help candidates including newly appointed County Clerk Adam Bello, and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, who is up for reelection.
