A state of the art Performing Arts building will open in January at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva.
The building will unite academic and performance spaces for theatre, music, dance, and media and society.
With the cornerstone revealed, the facility was named the Gearan Center for the Performing Arts in honor of President Mark D. Gearan and Mary Herlihy Gearan.

The Center is the largest project in the history of Hobart and william Smith Colleges. Generous community, faculty and friends of the schools helped raise the $28 million needed for the state-of-the-art facility.
It includes three flexible performance and rehearsal spaces designed specifically for theatre, music and dance with seating that can be changed to accommodate different productions and audience sizes.

The Board of Trustees unanimously voted to name the building for the Gearans.
