Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren is joining some other mayors from around the country in Washington Friday and Saturday to take part in a two-day event about education convened by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
Warren's office says that the event brings together a select few mayors from around the nation to talk about ways to increase the achievement of students, particularly those who are disadvantaged.
During Friday’s event, Bill Gates talked about how his foundation supports the Common Core standards and other education initiatives.
Other discussions will include working with community coalitions to reform city schools and public-private partnerships.
Warren has made a few trips to Washington since taking office in January. City Hall officials say this trip's hotel and transportation expenses are being paid by the Gates Foundation.
