Jobs Index Shows Little Change Over The Last 6 Months

A small business jobs index compiled monthly by Paychex shows that number relatively unchanged in June.

CEO Marty Mucci says the Paychex/IHS Small Business Jobs Index has shown  that  trend for much of this year in terms of the number of jobs created by small and medium sized businesses.

“About consistent for the first half of the year, actually, very positive for small business growth but just not a lot of change in the first 6 months of the year.”

Mucci says from what he’s heard from Paychex’s client base, many of those firms have been adding jobs, but at a very moderate pace.

“I think it’s still kind of slow and steady growth, they’re adding employees but they’re being careful about it. I think all regions are pretty much the same affected, although the mountain region seems to be coming on a bit stronger right now with the state of Washington.”

Mucci says that New York, New Jersey and other parts of the northeast didn’t do as well.

He says nationwide, there have been gains in areas such as leisure and hospitality while construction jobs declined.
