Coming up on Connections: Tuesday, September 8th

NPR

First hour: Squaring climate action with religious faith

Second hour: Telling the story of the excommunication of a church

Major religions are trying to come together to address ecological issues, and a number of upcoming events in the Rochester area will target people of various faiths to respond to climate change. We'll talk to representatives of the Christian, Jewish, and Islamic faiths about how their religious beliefs tie in to climate action.

Then, local filmmaker Matt Spaull joins us to talk about his documentary called Spiritus. It's a look at the excommunication of Corpus Christi Church in 1998. The film is a finalist in the Student Academy Awards, and some of the themes are timely: women's rights, same-sex marriage, inclusion vs. exclusion. It's a particularly fresh piece of work, given Pope Francis' upcoming U.S. visit. Matt Spaull joins us to talk about the issues involved and how he approached making the film.
