Longtime Rochester restaurant Roncone's to close

A well-known Italian restaurant on Rochester’s west side will be closing soon. Roncone’s, which has been around for 80 years, will close as of this coming Sunday.

But the owners, Jimmy Paulino and Tina Utz, say they will open up a new restaurant just down the road on Lyell Avenue near 390.

Paulino, who also has been an owner and chef for the last three years, will be serving the same recipes at his new place.

Utz says that they have had a good business at Roncone’s, but it was time for a bigger spot.

“We’ve resurrected it, we’ve brought it back to what it was; the family feeling, the great food, the atmosphere; we’ve outgrown the location. We’re just moving straight down the road, more parking, better hours, and a bigger spot,” Utz said.

She said that the Roncone’s name was very closely associated with the 232 Lyell Ave. location, so they wanted a fresh identity when they move down the road, with the new “Paulino’s Restaurant.”

The new restaurant is expected to open within the next few weeks. Roncone's will be open on Friday and Saturday.
