Staff cuts at the RBJ; consolidation with The Daily Record

There have been several staffers laid off at the Rochester Business Journal.

Publisher Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, who is also publisher of The Daily Record, says that the company that owns the two papers, BridgeTower Media, is restructuring operations and consolidating editorial operations of the RBJ and The Daily Record.

Eight employees have been affected by the changes. Fisher-Huettner says that editorial operations of the two papers will be led by Ben Jacobs, the current editor of The Daily Record.

Fischer-Huettner says that long time RBJ managing editor Mike Dickinson will become managing editor for both publications.

She says that the restructuring will strengthen operations without impacting coverage, and in a statement, said that the company remains “strongly committed to the Rochester business and legal communities and will continue to provide local, unique and essential content through The Daily Record and the Rochester Business Journal.”

The RBJ was sold last year to BridgeTower Media, which is part of Perinton-based GateHouse Media.
