A Name Change For The Lago Resort And Casino

The casino being planned for the Finger Lakes is getting a slight name change. Instead of being called the  Lago Resort & Casino,  the operators say it will now be called  del Lago Resort & Casino.  The "del" part means "of the lake" and the company says it reflects the idea the resort will serve as a gateway to the Finger Lakes.

The news about the name change came on the same week that casino operators heard that a state appellate court denied a preliminary injunction to block construction of that casino in the Town of Tyre.

Some residents in that area have opposed the casino because of concerns of its impact on traffic, noise and other parts of the local environment. The Oneida Indian Nation, which operates a casino in Central NY, has also opposed the casino.

Among the principals in the new casino is Rochester businessman Tom Wilmot.  The Lago executives say they expect the casino to open in February of 2017.
