Imagine Monroe, the county’s economic development agency, has approved incentives for a project that will see a famous chef open a new restaurant in Rochester.

As WXXI News first reported last December, Richard Reddington will be opening a restaurant on Winthrop Street called REDD in the space formerly occupied by 2 Vine restaurant.

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo says the backers of this venture expect to renovate the vacant commercial building as part of a $1.1 million project. It is projected to create 40 full-time jobs.

The developers of the project believe that Reddington’s national recognition will help accelerate commercial and residential interest in the East End district.

Imagine Monroe will provide a property tax incentive and sales tax exemption on certain construction materials and equipment.

On Tuesday, Imagine Monroe also approved tax incentives for a student housing project on Colony Manor Drive in Henrietta. The development, adjacent to the RIT campus, is a $100 million project that involves a 7-story building. It will create nine jobs.
