After 45 years as a gallery owner, Nan Miller is closing her art gallery on Monroe Avenue at the edge of Brighton. The noted art curator said she’ll miss the art world and the many roles she played in it.
Miller's gallery history including space on Park Ave. in Rochester, and then at Winton Place for many years until she moved to Monroe Ave. a few years ago.
“I’m an artist in my own right but I realized I can see art in a different way and help select what might be good for people’s home and really helping artists with their careers and selling art.”
Miller used that talent for over 45 years, representing artists, including Albert Paley, and selling art internationally.
“Albert is a master and a world-renowned artist in his own right. We met at a lecture at RIT and became friends. And then I started to represent him in some international shows.”
Miller said that while Rochester is a good market for art sales, most people buy art when traveling, meaning that many of her sales came from outside of the region.
She told WXXI News that she's excited for new ventures, but she will miss the gallery.

“Oh yes it’s very bittersweet but I’ve had a wonderful 45 years’ experience. It’s been a great journey, definitely a dream come true to own a gallery and to see the world that I have because of the gallery so yes, I will miss it but there’s a time that comes where you need to see change.”
A public sale begins Monday at the Nan Miller Gallery that she expects will last several weeks. But Miller won’t be completely disappearing. She said she plans to continue selling artwork online.
