RPO announces 2017/18 season. Itzhak Perlman is featured in the opening concert in September

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra announced its 2017/18 season Tuesday night during a free concert in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre.

The Orchestra’s third annual, free season preview concert featured the entire orchestra performing selected excerpts, with emcee Music Director Ward Stare joined by Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik.

The two co-hosted the event and took turns conducting highlights from the upcoming Philharmonics and Pops Series.

A Special Concert with world-renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman will open the season on Tuesday, September 12 with Ward Stare conducting. The program will feature famous cinematic music arranged by John Williams, including the theme  from Schindler’s List, which Perlman performed for the film itself.

Another concert features Broadway star Audra McDonald, on January 25th.

The Pops Series opens with A cELLAbration: The music of Ella and more, on, September 15 & 16. Led by Jeff Tyzik, paying tribute to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ella Fitzgerald.
