The RPO is trying something a little different this weekend. On Saturday night they will be performing music from a number of films produced by the well-known animation company Pixar.
RPO officials say this is a great way to introduce kids to orchestral music, playing the tunes from some of their favorite animated movies while showing clips from the films on a big screen.
It all happens in Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre, with the orchestra playing music from each of Pixar's 14 feature films including Finding Nemo, Toy Story and Monsters Inc.
Guest conductor Daniel Meyer says there will be a big screen over the RPO while they are playing these scores.
“We’ve got a huge high definition screen hoisted above the orchestra so you can see these famous moments from these Pixar movies as they come in real time and then the orchestra is coordinated with that.”
Officials with the RPO note that one of the distinguishing aspects of Pixar films is the serious attention they give to music and its role in storytelling.
The concert is Saturday night, 7 p.m., in the Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. You can get ticket info at www.rpo.org
