The George Eastman House has awarded a contract to a local architecture firm to conduct an historic site survey on that building and the grounds. The survey was funded by a state grant and officials say it is the start of a major restoration initiative at that museum.

Museum officials note that over the last 20 years, severe weather and the natural degradation of materials have affected the structural integrity of the site.

The survey is being done by Bero Architecture, PLCC,  which is certified in historic preservation.  That survey will prioritize areas of critical need at the Eastman House and the results will be used to support fundraising efforts. It will also lay out a plan for ongoing maintenance.

There will be a community forum about this process on Tuesday, June 3rd ,  6pm at the Eastman House.
