The popular Shotspeare returns this year

Producers of the annual KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival are inviting people to "take a leap," at one of the premier fringe festivals in the country and the largest multi-art festival in New York State, according to producer Erica Fee.

"We have over 570 performances and events over a 12-day period this year, with really something for everyone," she said.

Fee calls the festival transformative for the community, and this year features some new partnerships. She says it's all about diversity and inclusion, and fringe festivals, in general, are great community connectors.

"We've connected with ImageOut for many, many years. Now, this year we're connecting with the Puerto Rican Festival, also with the RPO premiere of two shows at Kodak Hall," Fee pointed out. "It just seems like the right thing to do, and luckily, it's the natural thing to do."

Fringe Festivals originated in Scotland in 1947. The Rochester Fringe Festival made its debut here in 2012, attracting 30,000 visitors. Last year, organizers say over 78,000 attended.

The 2019 KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival runs September 10 to 21. Click here for the full lineup.

Fringe Festival board members Justin Vigdor and Thomas Warfield say the community has embraced an idea that started out about ten years ago, and is now one of the country's premiere Fringe Festivals:
