The Landmark Society of Western New York is announcing its 2014 annual Preservation Awards. The awards are given to individuals and organizations in a nine-county area that have made outstanding efforts in the preservation of their homes, public buildings, historic properties, and landscapes.
Award winners include: The Academy Building on South Fitzhugh Street in Rochester. It receives the Barber Conable Award which recognizes a large-scale rehabilitation of an historic building in our region which has been completed within the past two years.
The Award Of Merit will go to The North Wayneport Road Bridge in Macedon, in Wayne County.
The Historic Landscape Award will be given to the Rochester Public Market and the New York State Fish Hatchery in Caledonia, in Livingston County.
The Historic Home Award goes to a 19th century house which is also a bed-and-breakfast inn at 625 Mt. Hope Avenue in Rochester.
A Special Achievement Award will be given to architectural historian, consultant, educator and author Jean France.
A Special Citation goes to Stantec Consulting Services on Commercial Street in Rochester; St. Januarius Catholic Church in Naples, and Portageville Chapel Organ Retreat in Wyoming County.
And the Craftsman Award goes to Plaster & Stucco specialist Michael Dube in Palmyra.
The awards will be handed out Sunday November 16 at 3:00 p.m. at Rochester's City Hall.
